Location:

The West Central School District is located eight miles west of the junction where Interstate 90 and Interstate 29 connect. The West Central School District borders the City of Sioux Falls and encompasses the City of Hartford, City of Humboldt, the Wall Lake area, Hartford Heights, and several other housing development areas.

The West Central School District is essentially a bedroom community for the City of Sioux Falls, which has a population of approximately 140,000. The City of Hartford is located 12 miles from the City of Sioux Falls with the City of Humboldt located eight more miles to the west.

Community Activities:

West Central Community Education program which offers education programs along with recreational programs such as adult basketball and volleyball. Other community activities include a softball league, amateur baseball, soccer, Jaycees, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Women of Today, Red Hat Society, American Legion, Parent Teacher Organization, Athletic Boosters, Music Boosters, and several other groups. The West Central School District is also in partnership with Sioux land Libraries regarding the Community Library.

Southeast Area Technical School, Augustana College, University of Sioux Falls, Colorado Technical and USDSU are located in the City of Sioux Falls. South Dakota State University is located in Brookings approximately 60 miles to the north of Sioux Falls. University of South Dakota is located in Vermillion approximately 60 miles to the south of Sioux Falls. Dakota State University is located in Madison approximately 35 miles to the Northwest of Hartford.

The West Central School District is affiliated with the University of Sioux Falls to provide college credit to staff through various in-service programs. The University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University, Dakota State University, and Northern State University have agreements with the West Central School District regarding student teacher programs.
